Richard Clément, Knight of l’Ordre des Palmes académiques 2018
We would like to congratulate our dear colleague, Richard Clément, who was awarded the Palmes académiques on Monday March 5th, 2018, from the Ministry of National Education of France for his years of service to the French culture. This distinction honours his work, both within and outside of the educational community, as a researcher and as an administrator of the OLBI.
Dr. Richard Clément’s research is rooted in the social psychology of language and communication. More precisely, he studies phenomena such as changing identities, and social adjustment during the acquisition of a second language and intergroup communication.His work has been published in both English and French across Europe and North America.
Born in Montréal and holder of a Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, Richard Clément is currently a Full Professor at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI), in addition to the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa.
In 2008, Dr. Clement was elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada and in 2015, he was named an Lifetime Honourary Member of the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers.
