Welcome to Renée Bélec!
The OLBI team is proud to welcome Renée Belec to the position of Director of Marketing and Development. Ms. Bélec, an alumna of the University of Ottawa, brings to this position her experience in the fields of marketing, strategic communications, and recruitment campaigns. She will assist to develop strategies for the Institute and will guide OLBI towards new opportunities of development. Having already worked at OLBI last year as an interim Marketing and Communications Officer, Renée is well-positioned to meet the challenges of her position. Welcome back, Renée!
Linguistic Duality Day
Canada School of Public Service, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the System Board Adjustment hosted a conference for public service employees, including those in Crown corporations. This conference, entitled "Learning a Second Language: Challenges, Benefits and Opportunities", took place at Canada School of Public Service on September 13, 2018.
Speakers discussed the incredible challenges, benefits and opportunities that come with learning a second language. The Commissioner of Official Languages, Raymond Théberge, delivered the inaugural address; other speakers included Patrick Borbey, President of the Public Service Commission; Monika Jezak, Assistant Director of the University of Ottawa's Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute; and Carsten Quell, Executive Director of the Treasury Board Secretariat's Centre of Excellence for Official Languages.

This new program created by French for the Future gives students the opportunity to be part of a youth committee that gathers young Canadians who want to develop projects to promote bilingualism. The OLBI will present its undergraduate programs: Second Language Teaching (SLT/DLS), English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FLS). At the University's Open House is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with our programs, to meet teachers and other students, and to see what life on campus entails.
