Is there a deadline to apply to the English Intensive Program?
No, however please note that you must allow yourself enough time to gather all your travel documents (visa, study permit, passport etc. if required) before the start of the session and that you must arrive in Ottawa (with accommodations) in time to attend Integration Days.
How do I register for the EIP?
Go to: https://olbi.uottawa.ca/cll/eip/registration-form to complete the online application form. Once you submit your application form, you will receive an automated email with the next steps to follow.
Please note that due to high volume, it can take from 4 – 6 weeks for our office to process your application form.We thank you in advance for your patience.Enrollment in EIP courses happens approximately 1 month before the start of the term.
What documents do I need to study in the EIP?
There are no mandatory documents required from the Centre of Language Learning (CLL) office (i.e. EIP Office) for students to participate in the English Intensive Program. If you are a special student (no conditional offer from the University), you will be required to take an online language placement test, to determine your class level.
We do ask that all students please check with their local Embassy or the Immigration Canada website in order to make sure they have all the travel documents necessary to study in Canada. If they are a special student and not 18 years old, we require a proof they graduated high school.

How long does the EIP take?
The EIP has 5 levels: ESL 0105, ESL 0110, ESL 0120, ESL 0130 and ESL 0140. Each level is 14 weeks (1 term) long. It depends at what level you start and if you successfully complete your level.

Can I start my program or take other courses while I study with the EIP?
Unfortunately, no. If you are a student with a conditional offer to the University of Ottawa, the EIP is a condition to your admission. It is a full time program, that must be completed before starting your undergraduate program. If you are a special student (no conditional offer to the University of Ottawa), you are free to take additional courses. Please note that the EIP tuition does not cover additional courses.

How can I pay the deposit/tuition fees?
International Payment: we suggest international students pay using Western Union GlobalPay. More information can be found on this on the University’s website: methods of payment . Please note that it will take a minimum of 5 business days for the payment to be visible in your uoZone student account. We strongly suggest you keep your confirmation information and track your payment.

Is the deposit mandatory?
Yes, the $500 non-refundable deposit is mandatory. This first installment insures we save you a seat in the program. This deposit also allows our Institution to send you admission documents and the placement test information (if needed) to continue the registration process. Please note that the $500 deposit is non-refundable. Exceptionally, a one-time transfer to the next term is offered for students whose study permit has been denied. Original proof of refusal must be submitted in order to receive the transfer.

If I apply for multiple sessions, do I need to pay multiple deposits?
Yes, you must pay multiple deposits if you wish for your admission documents to reflect which EIP session(s) you wish to participate in .
What is my total tuition cost?
Tuition fees are listed on our website (eip.uottawa.ca) under Dates and Fees . Please note that dates and fees are subject to change without notice. Ancillary fees (UHIP, U-pass and incidentals) will differ slightly if you have a conditional offer from the University of Ottawa.

When will I receive admission documents?
Admission and/or confirmation of deposit documents are sent to students once the mandatory non-refundable $500 deposit is visible in a student’s uoZone student account or if we have received an Admission Purposes letter from the student’s sponsor. Please note: Students with conditional offers from the University of Ottawa should use their Admission Offer Letter to apply for their study permit. The Centre for Language does not issue official admission documents.

Is this program covered by OSAP?
Unfortunately, no. Tuition fees for the EIP are not covered by OSAP since this program is a non-for-credit program through the University of Ottawa.
I am not an international student/a permanent resident/live in Canada. Is the cost different for me?
Tuition fees are the same for all students, no matter what country they are coming from, or their legal status in Canada. However, some of the incidental fees and other program costs (health insurance) may be different for each student depending on their status.
Are UHIP fees mandatory?
Yes, UHIP – the University Health Insurance Plan is mandatory for all students participating in the EIP. Please note that if you already have health insurance coverage in Canada, it is your responsibility to provide proof of insurance by submitting your proof of coverage to the International Office. If you do not submit proof, the UHIP fees will remain in your account. You can reach the International office at: email@example.com

Can I submit new IELTS results so that I do not have to participate in EIP?
The Undergraduate Admissions Office requires students to provide English proficiency test results for an offer of admission. Students can submit new IELTS scores to the Admissions Office until the submission deadline. Can I take EIP and then submit new IETLS after to change the number of ESL courses I need to take?
No. Once a student chooses to participate in the EIP, they must complete it if they are a conditional offer student. They must successfully complete the bridging level, ESL 0140 in order to start their undergraduate programs.

Can I skip a level?
Yes. A student can skip a level of the EIP if they successfully complete their current course with the mandatory 85% attendance rate and an 85% overall grade. This decision is subject to approval by the Centre for Language Learning management team and the teaching staff.
Do I have to participate in outings?
No, students are not required to participate in outings but we strongly encourage them to since they are great opportunities for them to practise speaking English and meet other students in the program.
Is Integration Days mandatory?
Yes, Integration Days are mandatory. We strongly encourage students to participate in Integration Days in order to meet other international students, meet some of their teachers and get some assistance with picking up their student cards, UPASS, health insurance coverage information etc. These few days at the beginning of the semester are an opportunity for students to be acquainted with the campus and recover from their international travels before classes begin.

What is the deadline to pay the deposit/tuition fees?

Deadlines change with each session and are different than the University’s undergraduate tuition deadlines. We strongly encourage students to pay as soon as possible.
When will I be charged for my tuition fees?
Tuition fees are visible after a student has been registered to their courses. Our Office will register you in your EIP course approximately 3 weeks before the start of the program.
Can you explain to me how to get a proof of funds for my visa application?
If you are a student with a conditional offer to the University of Ottawa, you can log into your uoZOne Student Centre and download your statement of account.
Alternatively or if you are not a student with a conditional offer, you can contact Infoservice to request a proof of payment, or email them at email@example.com . Be sure to include your student number in your communications. You will receive your proof of payment by email.

Do I have to be a student at the University of Ottawa to participate in this program?
No. You are not required to be a future student at the University of Ottawa. We do require that students have completed their secondary studies in their home country. Students who do not have conditional offers from the University will be registered as special students and be required to take an online language placement test, in order for us to assess the appropriate class level.
