In Other Words - November 2017
Congratulations to our most recent graduate!
OLBI is proud to showcase Catherine Mongrain, the most recent graduate of the Master's Program in Bilingualism Studies, who will continue her career at the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages! We are happy to share with you her thoughts about her experience at OLBI:
"My experience with OLBI was filled with challenges, learning and collaboration with experts in the field. I received, both at the bachelor's and the master's level, solid training in second-language didactics and the study of bilingualism. The teachers had a passion for their field and were able to transmit it to me. Thanks to their expertise, I have learned a lot about this subject that fascinates me. My experience at OLBI allowed me to surpass myself on a personal and academic level. Having had the chance to have research and teaching assistantships, I was able, even while studying, to gain experience in my field. Thanks to my studies and my experiences working at OLBI, I feel ready to take up new challenges and contribute in the field of second-language didactics and the study of bilingualism. For future students, I recommend them to go for it and not be afraid. I also advise them to take advantage of their time at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute. I know that a Masters can be a very stressful time, but you have to live the experience thoroughly and enjoy it! "
Marie-Josée Hamel (OLBI) and Catherine Caws (UVIC) are associate partners in the eLANG project of the ECML as Canadian experts in digital literacy in language teaching and learning. On October 10 and 11, the eLANG team, coordinated by Christian Ollivier (UReunion), delivered a two-day workshop to some 40 participants from 34 European countries. In this workshop participants were familiarized with the project's socio-strategic approach as well as the concept of real-life tasks. A Moodle eLANG platform is being developed and will be made available to (future) teachers trainers.
