Enrolling in a Second Language Course (ESL and FLS)

OLBI offers language courses for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Courses in French as a Second Language (FLS, français langue seconde) and English as a Second Language (ESL) are designed for language learners to help you improve your language skills. Students from all faculties may enrol in FLS and ESL courses for credit, as well as staff and professors through the Language program for employees. OLBI also offers accelerated FLS and ESL programs.

Follow these simple steps to enrol in FLS or ESL courses:

  1. Determine if you will take a course for academic units or an intensive course with no academic units. A placement test may be required.
  2. Choose your course
  3. Enrol!

To view the schedule for an ESL or FLS courses with units (credits), visit the University’s timetable page. The courses of interest to you may not be offered every semester.

Enrol with uOZone

To enrol in courses at the University of Ottawa, go to uoZone (under Applications, click Enrol).

Conditional offer of admission requiring you to take ESL 2121 and/or ESL 2361

Contact your Faculty to register in the course. uoCampus on uOZone will not allow you to enrol online.
OR 
Visit OLBI's reception located in room 130 at Hamelin Hall to register in person

Graduate Students

For graduate students, make sure you have the approval of your program or Thesis Director. It is usually the case that the final grades in these courses do not count in a graduate student’s grade point average.  It is important to confirm this detail with the Office of Graduate Studies in one’s Faculty.
